Gabriela
Commissioned by DJ Eli Escobar and Rafael Ohayon (of Café Mogador), this mural was created for Gabriela, their bar and nightclub in Williamsburg. Sarah met Eli years earlier, and included him in her viral Night Emperors series; he later DJ’d the after-party of her first solo show. For Gabriela, she painted a series of eyes as symbols of connection and protection. In Mediterranean culture, the eye wards off harm and channels truth, echoing Gabriela’s mission to foster real community. In a city that often feels anonymous, the piece offers a sense of being truly SEEN. For the opening night, Sarah hand-painted a trompe-l’œil dress covered in eyes—a playful nod to the French word œil, meaning “eye.”
